The International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre is a CGIAR centre with a long history of successful participatory research & development of maize varieties and hybrids. CIMMYT research has a strong multi-disciplinary orientation with breeders, agronomists and economists. CIMMYT has catalyzed and successfully participated in CA research in the developing world over the past three decades. The CIMMYT CA program has strong participatory systems agronomy expertise and has collaborated with a range of national and regional partners to initiate successful scaling out of CA in maize based systems of Eastern and Southern Africa. CIMMYT social scientists are engaged in value chain analyses of maize inputs and produce, as well as on-farm technology evaluation. Other relevant expertise includes capacity building in participatory diagnosis of farming systems and the management of on-farm research. CIMMYT will be coordinating the project, and will contribute significantly to Objective 1 and 2 through its Conservation Agriculture Program, and to Objectives 2 and 3 through its Socio-Economic Program.
